Medicine Ball Madness

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

I love medicine balls! They are great for strength, power and agility training. They’re not just used to throw at a boxer’s stomachs, you know!Medicine balls have been around since ancient times. They were used by athletes such as wrestlers and on the other end of the spectrum, Hippocrates’ rehabilitation patients.Medicine balls typically come in weights ranging from 2-25 lbs and can be made from various materials. Some look basketballs, some like Pilates balls and other are made from leather. You can use the medicine ball simply as added resistance to basic exercises such as squats and lunges. Or as a substitute for free weights, like for tricep extensions and bicep curls. Alternately you can combine the basics with the free weight exercises comfortably with the ball to form some pretty badass compound exercises. My favourite compounds with the medicine balls are:lunge + tricep extensionswalking lunges + twisting for the abssquat + bicep curl + shoulder raiseUsing the ball this way really gets your heart going and definitely makes you sweat.Medicine balls are commonly known for power training. When I train outdoors I do a drill where I throw the ball out from my chest as hard as I can, sprint to it, throw it overhead and repeat. This really works your chest, arms, shoulders, abs and legs. With a lighter med ball I lay on my back, throw it up in to the air and catch it. However, you have to have good hand-eye co-ordination for this one and also, know how to get away from the ball, in case you can’t catch it!Medicine balls are also great for ab work. Adding a little resistance to your crunches puts on muscle and holding on to the ball is more comfortable than a free weight. Pretty much any crunch you can do, can be enhanced with a medicine ball. Try your crunches with a medicine AND stability ball. The possibilities are truly endless!Medicine balls are affordable, transportable and durable. They make a great addition to home gyms, outdoor training and are a great way to take your workout up a notch.Try it!Kaleena Lawless Personal Training Specialist http://www.kalisthenixfitnessblog.com

The new generation voice recorder now comes in an amazing package that includes not just an amazing recording quality recorder but a bunch of accessories which make telephone and cellphone recording possible along with many more features. One Brand in particular which has the highest sampling rate at this time at 32K is the Diasonic brand from S.Korea.This little gem is an MP3 player with 2gig of memory which enables you to store up to 565 hrs of voice recording! It is also a portable hard drive and FM Radio. According to a leading e-commerce retailer this model is very popular with private detectives/investigators, students, law enforcement and reporters. This product is considered a specialty item not available in your typical electronics shop. Many people have no idea that such a product even exists. No matter what line of work you are in or if you are a full time student, a recorder of this caliber and flexibility is a must. My personal favorite is the Diasonic 2GIG DR-5k series recorder.Say so long to those old tape phone recorder or micro cassette recorders. Now I can save my calls and interviews then download them to my PC, e-mail, burn to disc etc… sound good huh? When traveling I use it as my Mp3 player or FM radio. Lastly since it is a portable hard drive I can take my important documents with me. These little companions are tiny, only about 3.5″ x 1″ x .5″ and it weighs nothing. Your Paintball Gun Barrel Length is Important

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

If you’re familiar with the sport of paintball or you’re just beginner, you are going to always find it difficult to select the right length of barrel for your paintball gun. The length of the barrel matters and will dictate how far paintballs travel from standing still to flying up to speeds of 300 fps. The first 8 to 10 inches of a barrel are the most important, and some people think that by adding another 4 inches on the barrel may be helpful in obtaining more accuracy and range. For anything over 8 inches, the pressure in the paintball gun barrel drops and any additional length just causes friction. If you purchase a barrel that is shorter than 8 inches like a pistol, it may have less range and accuracy than regular paintball guns. You’re also going to need extra gas if you purchase of a paintball gun barrel that is longer than 14 inches.Keep in mind that the ideal length for barrels on paintball guns is 8 to 14 inches. If you’re competing in warmer weather, gas from the tank will expand faster so you can get away with a shorter barrel. The opposite happens in colder weather as the gas will need more time to expand, so a slightly longer barrel is better.Barrels that are ported can be longer, but you’re going to consume more gas. You’ll find that many paintball stores or paintball gear suppliers will offer you a super, long-range paintball gun barrel. You’re going to find that the longer barrel won’t increase your range or accuracy, but it does have a few advantages. They will enable you to shoot around bunkers or peek through bushes easier without being exposed. A longer barrel that is ported is also much quieter. As far as the disadvantages are concerned, you’ll find the longer barrel will consume more gas and it can make it harder to hide and maneuver on the field. You’ll find the longer barrel is not going to increase the range of the paintballs. When two paintballs leave different-sized barrels at the same speed, they will travel the same distance. Consult with an online expert or your local paintball gear supplier for more information.By Terry Price- The people at Spyder have some great recreational guns: http://www.paintballgunsgear.com/contact-us.html or they also have some amazing value price tournament guns! http://www.paintballgunsgear.com/spyder-electra-paintball-gun.html

A Simple Pan Tilt Zoom Camera System

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

There are many applications where a simple Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) camera system can be used. Today more and more churches, sanctuaries, temples or where ever a religious service can be held are incorporating Pan Tilt Zoom camera systems into their facility. This type of system is also great for remote viewing or closed circuit broadcasting within the facility or burning to a DVD using a DVR.The most important component of a PTZ system is the PTZ camera. The most popular are the Sony EVI-D70 and EVI-D100 and the Canon VC-C50i. There is a new high definition pan tilt zoom (PTZ) camera by Sony, EVI-HD1 A simple system can be set-up with relative easy and doesn’t always require an integrator. The other elements include cabling, controllers, wall mounts, ceiling mounts, Digital Video Recorders (DVR) and if incorporating with a PC an interface card. There are many example on the Web of Pan Tilt Zoom camera applications. There are also many capable integrators to incorporate the Pan Tilt Zoom Camera system, but check references and it is advisable to work with someone that is local. The following quote for Christianity Today, a buyers guide website is useful to employ,”One useful technique to separate the wheat from the chaff is to hire a prospective vendor for a small job, and then evaluate their response time, orderliness, professionalism, and quality of work. This should be a good indicator of their performance if given the large task of installing a full system.”Carolynn Larson-Garcia is the General Manager of Aegis Electronic Group, Inc., an industrial vision distributor, located in Arizona. Differences Between Canadian and American Football

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

American and Canadian football both descended from rugby and began in Canada as a game played between British soldiers garrisoned in Montreal. The soldiers played a series of games against students at McGill University. McGill played several games against Harvard in 1874 and a tradition was born. Despite their mutual origins, the Canadian and the American game developed differently and now have substantially different rules and regulations. The biggest difference between Canadian and American football is the size of the playing field. In Canada, football fields are 110 yards long and 65 yards wide. In America football fields are 100 yards long and 53 and 1/3 yards wide. The goal posts in Canadian football are placed at the front, rather than the back of the end zone which is also deeper in Canadian football than American.Canadian football teams have twelve players as opposed to the eleven on American teams. Because the same number of players is required at the line of scrimmage in both games, this results in an extra backfield player on Canadian teams. This means that the typical Canadian offensive setup has two slot backs instead of a tight end and on defense, two defensive halfbacks and one safety instead of two safeties as is typical in the American game.Another difference between the two games is the number of downs. Instead of four as in the American game, Canadian football has three. This results in a more pass and kick oriented game since there are fewer downs available for short-yardage running plays. The kicking rules are also slightly different with the kicker being able to recover and advance his own kick. For this reason, kicking is a much more integral part of Canadian football than American. The biggest difference between the kicking rules in the two games is that there is no fair catch rule in Canadian football. In American football, if a kick returner thinks he will not be able to advance the ball after recovery, he can signal for a fair catch and be immune from contact. In Canadian football no player on the kicking team except the kicker and any players behind him on the field may ever be within 5 yards of the ball unless it has been touched by an opponent. Also, in Canadian football any kick that goes into the end zone is a live ball, except for successful field goals. There are other minor differences as well including scoring, motion and time rules but they are not as significant as the major differences noted here.Jonathon Hardcastle writes articles on many topics including Football, Games, and Recreation

A Mystery Book Review Club!

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

If you have ever been involved in a book club you know how rewarding they can be. If you haven’t, I suggest you go on out and start one or find one to join! If you are a book lover, belonging to a reading group is a MUST. Of course, if you are pressed for time, you can always find one of the many available groups online. Here’s a twist on the normal reading group. How about a Mystery Book Review Club? Most readers love a good mystery. They may not evoke the kind of “deep” discussion your book club is used to but they sure make for fun and interactive reading selections! You can host a mystery and thriller book club a couple of different ways.1. You can choose to follow the normal book group guidelines except focusing on just the mystery genre.2. Follow the normal meeting and hosting procedures but choose just one mystery author at a time and read four or more of their books. Discuss at each meeting.3. The real fun - at each meeting (or every other one) host a “whodunit” dinner with the help of a murder mystery party game! Generally your book discussion will be shorter than the norm so supplementing with a murder mystery dinner is a great option. Plus, it helps expand your analytical thinking skills so you can be the first to figure out “whodunit” in your next book club selection!Interested in more in-depth info on how to host a mystery book review club?
